  1. I first read this several years ago, and have re-read it since - I could happily read it again (but it would have to join the queue!). He builds a plausible counter-history, takes us into the minds of the people in that world, and lets us feel the uneasiness as some begin to realise that what they are being told doesn't fit with the evidence. Having 'won' WW2, there is no public explanation for the continuing casualties from fighting still continuing in Siberia.

    He recaptures the feel of the lies and half-truths of the Nazi regime - it reminded me of the atmosphere when the German people were being told of great victories being won over the Soviets, but with no explanation as to why those victories were happening nearer and nearer home...

    An excellent read. Thanks for reminding me!
